Celebrating 25 years!

SupplySource, Inc. is celebrating its 25^th anniversary having been founded in 1984 by Ray and Pam Thompson in Williamsport, Pa. The company originally started as an office products business then gradually shifted to selling office furniture. By the early 1990’s almost all of the company sales became office furniture. The growing success in selling office furniture, particularly to the Commonwealth of Pa., led to Herman Miller to approach SupplySource in 1994 to be their contract holder with the State. From 2004 to 2009, SupplySource was the “Best Value Primary Furniture” supplier to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Since becoming an exclusive Herman Miller dealer, SupplySource has experienced substantial growth. The company has become one of the largest full service office furniture dealers in Pa. Currently, it has office locations in Williamsport, Lancaster, Camp Hill, State College, and Johnstown with a combined staff of over 60 employees.

In 2008, SupplySource created a LLC for conducting business in Washington, DC.

SupplySource sells not only Herman Miller products such as the iconic “Aeron” chair, but also interior products from many other manufacturers. The company offers design, space planning, project management, installation, and furniture maintenance services.

Cable Management for Conference Rooms

It used to be that a conference room’s purpose was solely for face-to-face collaboration. With the advent of webinars and teleconferencing systems, it seems that these large rooms are continually being updated with new technology and, of course, more and more wires.

The conference room at our Williamsport office recently underwent an upgrade to enable web conferencing between our six regional offices. Upgrades included a PolyCom teleconferencing phone with external microphones, a ceiling-mounted projector, and a laptop for presentations (these items are all commonly found in most modern conference rooms). With these three items, the space underneath the laptop became a tangled mess of wires and power cords and could be viewed as a safety hazard.

To help tame the mess we blended wire management products from both HumanScale and Mockett. The products used were the Mockett Wire Spine and doughnut combination (to bring the video and data cables up from the floor to the laptop), HumanScale’s Neat Links (to lift the surge protector and other cables off the floor), and a Mockett Threshold Wire Manager (to ensure that the cables would not be crushed by conference room chair casters). This blending of inexpensive product helped to tame the mess and required very little installation or room re-configuration.

Upcoming Event – USGBC Mixer – Wednesday, June 24 @ 6:30 PM

The North Central Pennsylvania Green Building Association steering committee will be hosting a mixer at the Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport on June 24, 2009, starting at 6:30 pm.

This second mixer will provide a sociable atmosphere where we can discuss branch membership, update attendees on the steering committee’s upcoming plans, and share information on green building events and activities in the region. I will be attending, along with Bryan Smith and other members of the branch steering committee; we look forward to answering questions you may have about GBACPA, USGBC, and branch activities.

GBACPA, with help from its sponsors, will provide light snacks to complement the extensive offerings of adult beverages from the Bullfrog Brewery’s cash bar. We are pleased to hold this event – as we did the last one – at a local business with sustainable operating practices.
